Well who would have thought. I woke up, joined a friends channel and the bot didnt respond. Logged remotely into the server and checked it over, everything looked fine. Then noticed in a JTVNOTIFIER, I have been banned for 24 hours. Now I know you need to contact JTV for this matter but thats not what this thread is about. I am assuming somehow it was 24 hour banned for hitting a spamming trigger of some sort. I am curious as the the parameters of the auto global ban for spamming so i can make sure the bot doesnt get a 24 hour ban again. I do have people who have donated to the bot and hate to see it just fail so easily. I thought my putting the invite script to broadcaster invite only would keep it join unsuspecting rooms and being used for spam. If anyone knows any info on the topic i am very interested. Also i am curious as to if i go home now will my account be banned also because my laptop and server will then be on the same IP.

Dylan, Please do not lock this thread. Yes i have read your post on bans and how to take care of it. I am looking for serious answers to modify my scripting. Thank you.

No worries. I only lock if it's a complaint about being suspended/global ban.

You are trying to fix the problem which I admire. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you other than your bot may have been posting an excessive amount of text per minute.

Locking Thread.

Just kidding, but might I suggest something?

Firstly, while you are still fine tuning your bot, add a debug output so you can later examine details of what possibly went wrong. Perhaps create a directory with files for individual JTV channels and log all the bot's output in there, each channel with its own text file. That way you can open them up individually, or just tail/more the sum of the files to see all of the data in a timed order.

Secondly, what if you added a sort of back-off timer, making your bot only respond to an individual user once per XXX defined period of time, or once per JTV channel per XXX defined period of time?

I haven't written an irc bot in something like 15 years, but I think those 2 things should be pretty easily accomplished.

The bot does log all chats and i have scanned through them. I actually looked through tos and i noticed spamming porn links is a no no. Though the bot is invite only and is an 18+ channel to even get access to the bot i think this may have been a problem modifying a googlesearch script to do a porn search. Though it was made more as a joke such as "!psearch banana" i think this may have triggered the spam ban. *command removed* and thankful it's just a 24 hour ban. Yet i am still curious as to if there is more too it. I know i had a 24 hour ban for counting to 30 really fast in my own channel (LOL). Which yes was very annoying but i didn't feel like taking the time to complain for my own actions to the staff. So my question now is regarding messages. Is a 24 hour chat ban put into play if someone types too many messages too fast. IE if a room is suddenly flooded with trolls and the bot greeting is on would that possibly trigger a global ban?

Next, still wondering if i'm going to go home to an IP ban of if its just the bot which is banned. If so and this is going to be the case is there any way one of the staff/admin/moderators can talk amongst yourselves and find it in your hearts to unban the IP. It is running a server so i do have the IP on hand and can be reached on my blackberry via email to resolve the issue. vinyl313@gmail.com If this is not the case and the only ban is on the bots account discard this paragraph.

PS. LOL @ Dylan. Thank you for not locking. And props to the good work. I get a good laugh at some of these threads with people going on about being banned then a simple post from you stating "Locked." I think I click on the locked treads just for entertainment. :)

well i was correct in my assumptions. I got back to my apartment unpacked, tried to log on to jtv and i am banned.... Hopefully since the 24 hour ban on the bot happened sometime last night it will be resolved by morning... Wish me luck :-P

well actually come to find out the Bot has a TOS suspension. I am guessing for some reason Whitelisted accounts are not locked out when TOS suspension is put into play. The bot is still working yet now it makes it really annoying with everyone joining my channel to invite the bot to theirs. I am guessing now I will have to email justin.tv about getting the suspension lifted if at all possible.

This is out of any forum help. You may lock this thread now if you like. :-P

Exactly WHY? would you lock it if it's a complaint about being suspended/global ban? I just started a thread asking that very thing? Is it going to be locked ? Why?

Because nothing can be done on that front from these forums. They are community ran.

Bots are completely unecessary and should all be banned anyways. Only live users should have access to chat rooms. the Vaughn bot should be destroyed.
