hey guys

i was wondering, i notice all your servers are located in san franscisco, Very nice place been there a few times...

The problem im having is my ISP (road runner here in central florida) is using cogentco as a intermediary and i'm getting terrible packet loss on their network once it hits atlanta: -

| Hop | %Loss | IP Address | Node Name | Location | Tzone | ms | Graph | Network |
| 8 | 50% | 154.54.12.109 | te3-4.ccr01.atl02.atlas.cogentco.com | | | 25 | x--- | 154.54.12.0 |
| 9 | 22% | 154.54.0.161 | te9-4.ccr01.atl01.atlas.cogentco.com | | | 22 | x | 154.54.0.0 |

i've contacted road runner and they say the usual "it's not our network we can't do anything",

I guess my question is, rather more of a suggestion, do you guys run or are planning to run an east coast server that we can stream to to get onto the network?

it's really limiting me as i can't stream the bitrate i want because of the latency and packet loss..

i have a 2 meg upload and can't stream any more than 800 k/s :(

I know it's not this end as i have a separate modem for the stream and other people i know have the same problem (who are also on RR).

Any help appreciated.

Usual spec stuff below

Encoder: AMD QuadCore 9150e 4 gig ram, 1tb drive + 2tb NAS, Osprey-100

From what I am aware of, JTV has servers all around the world.

Not sure where specifically, but I am pretty sure San Francisco is just the location of their headquarters (and some servers).

only reason y i say that is that all the ip's that i get for live.justin.tv traceroute to SFO.

if there was one in say NC or virginia or even one down here in daytona :D that would make it a whole lot better for my viewers :)

Like i say, i know it's not their fault (or problem), i'm just looking to see if there's an alternative

If you have money, buy yourself a server - run your stream from there (with Flash Media Server) and then set up a server to server stream with JTV. The you could even stream multiple channels and so on...

It would cost you a lot of money. But it is an option. As always:

If you want something nice you have to pay the price! :D

Oh and...if you get in touch with a server host you might even be able to ask for the location you want and basically cut your packet loss in half by having it in Denver or so.

A good server with unlimited bandwith and storage is abot $120 a year ...with 5 domains and lots of fun stuff.

www.inmotionhosting.com is where I got mine.

so you're saying, setup a server in a data-center that's running FMS, stream to that and have that relay to JTV ?

have you done this? is this something that the JTV guys are ok with ?

The IPs will link to SF becuase they are conected to the jtv computer in SF. ( i think correct me if im wrong)

thats the reason why i was asking if JTV have a cdn relay/server on the east coast.

The option I gave you was an idea...it might work. I know someone on JTV who is running more than one channel and as far as I know he is using FMS.

The tricky thing is the setup. Setting up FMS wth the htv broadcast is difficult. YOu need to do scripting and and and.....

But it CAN work. There is always a way! Just make sure it is legal.
