What's the deal with the social section?
It's now flooded with stupid movie channels, and the likes.
Very annoying, makes it very hard to find people who are
correctly using the social section.
Something needs to be done to clean it up and get it back
to how it was, because how it is now, is useless.

What is in the social section is based on how people flag their channels. So if I play a video game but put it in sports, it'll show up in the sports section.

I realize that. And by clean it up, I mean someone on staff or whoever else can fix it, should do something about it.

Probably people trying to hide their broadcasts due to DRM so they are intentionally mislabeling what their channel is about.

Yeah, that is another whole topic I'd like to see get addressed, and that's getting rid of all those stupid channels in the first place.

I just checked out the social section, and as of 11:55pm CST 03/25/10, I didn't see a single movie on the first page results.

It may be related to the current stream of things going about Justin TV right now. And by that I mean the Spring Cleaning thingy.
I continiously set my Catergory to Gaming but whenever I hit broadcast and check my channel. It keeps resetting it to Social - New Broadcaster. Which is probably as irritating as seeing Games/Movies/unrelated streams in the Social section.

I continiously set my Catergory to Gaming but whenever I hit broadcast and check my channel. It keeps resetting it to Social - New Broadcaster. Which is probably as irritating as seeing Games/Movies/unrelated streams in the Social section.
That must be the issue, as looking over the channels showing up now
all are set to Social - New Broadcaster.

:mad: Its all the problem JTV have; cant cast,no sound,no vid,update this/that. People get fustrated of all the headache so nobody comes in the social section anymore. So they fill it up with hockey,movie,games,and other crap that should be in other section. Otherwise if you come on social section only one your see on there is dylan and jane HAHAHAHA! :eek:

I miss the days when there weren't even categories. There were only about ten channels during those days. Staff had to approve each person's request in order to create a channel. The site was built for the intended purpose of lifecasting. Sadly as you all point out, it's original purpose has slowly been diminishing over the past three years.
As for the problem with channels appearing in the wrong section, I do think there is a bug there involving the iphone changes. There are duplicate channels that I have been seeing as well which I am sure is all related somehow.

I think you are right on the channels automatically moving because of a bug, I checked mine in my settings and it shows that at sometime it got moved to the 'Social' area also.

I tried to make an account and it was easier than ever.
But, that account belonged 'Social section' automatically.
I think this causes the current problems.
It's easy to join JTV for new comers, but JTV have to let them choose which section they'd like to belong to.

Hmm... that could be the reason. I wasn't aware that they even allowed anyone to broadcast without choosing a category first. I like the fact that they chose 'social' for the default category as it should be one of the few categories even allowed on the site. I'm just sayin'. ;P
