To get everyone up to speed. There is a new ad thingy that shows every 30 minutes over the video player. Daniel called it a Mid-Roll. Ok so, you're watching a channel and every 30 minutes a 30 second ad is going to pop up, with the option to close it after 5 seconds, that shows an ad and also promotes Pro accounts. The ad is audio and video so it is going to interrupt whatever you're watching until you close it or the 30 seconds has passed.

Everyone up to speed? Good!

Now, my question is... Who thought this was a good idea?
I need to know who to blame for the ultimate downfall of JTV.

So lets go through the pros and cons of this...I shall start with the Pros.

Pros
The ad brings in revenue for jtv (when it is not closed after 5 seconds I assume)

It promotes the JTV Pro Account which might turn into revenue.

The revenue keeps Dylan in new ties and Daniel looking fresh.

Cons
The ad interrupts the broadcast.

Causes viewers to constantly ask what they missed.

The constant asking leads to frustrated broadcasters.

Broadcasters leave.

JTV dies.

That is the simple version. From what I can tell JTV is hurting for revenue but there has to be a better way. This really will kill the site. I hate to break it to you staffers but no one is going to buy a pro account just to end these ads. They will simply find a way around it or find another site.

Look, we all know that running this site is expensive and we understand JTV is funded by ad based revenue but when you diminish the content like this... no one will stay.

Ok, that was a little silly but it's still true. More and more people will start using these addons. Essentially the pool of people who did see the ads... the ones who bring in the revenue for you now... will shrink even further which equates to less potential revenue in the long run.

But, maybe JTV isn't thinking about the long run.

Why don't users buy Pro accounts?
Mainly because there are very few benefits if you live in the US, Canada, or the UK. What do you get? Ad free viewing, a few more color options, and a nifty [Pro] badge no one wants. Since we already covered the ad free viewing ...basically all a pro gets you is a few colors, a badge, and a bill every month.

It's obvious JTV wants to sell more Pro accounts so how can they do it?
First, you need to up the incentive. Take some tips from Twitch. Turbo accounts get endless name color choices, special emotes, the ability to turn on and off the badge, and I'm sure there's more. Here's an idea I've suggested quite a few times.... the ability to Gift a pro account! I mean like seriously... you know some guy who is trying to hook up with some chick on here (who is probably a guy as well) is going to try and buy his way into her heart by buying her a pro account so she can have a Deep Pink username. BAM! REVENUE! Or, a broadcaster wants to have a game, or trivia, or scavenger hunt, or.... whatever, and the prize is a pro account. I don't know. Personally I would buy 1 month of Pro to give away in a contest before I would buy one for myself. It's not like it would be hard to code a page for that... I could probably do it in a day by modifying the current Pro Account page.

I don't doubt that some of these incentives/suggestions/stolen ideas from Twitch are in the works for JTV but why not roll these out before resorting to the MID ROLL OF DEATH!

Ok we solved how to sell more pro accounts without the mid roll ad. You are already bringing in more money...Dylan has a plethora of new ties and Daniel is looking fresh with his new bling... you're welcome. But JTV still need more money for Fine Liquor Fridays...

Ok so, ads... I don't know. Figure out a way to code the site to where the ad blockers don't work. There are a couple site I go to where my ad blocker just does not and will not work. Yes I use an ad blocker and I see no ads on jtv with the exception of the Taboola ones below the player. Don't hate me for using it though... I figure my 4 years of constantly broadcasting successful and popular channels has brought in a pretty penny for JTV and that is why I don't feel bad about using the blocker. So, back to the ads... I don't know how they code their site or ads but there is no way around it. Why don't you ask them what they're doing and copy it?

Anyways, just wanted to throw these suggestions your way in an attempt to save the site. Most likely you will not consider any of these as viable alternatives to the MID ROLL OF DEATH! Now that I think about it... you have probably already sold the mid roll ad space and are under contact for a certain period of time or something like that so even if you did change your mind you're locked in for X months or whatever. By that time the site will be dead and Twitch would have already swooped in and taken the server space. bastards!
