Default HELP: Questions about what Justin.tv can do and what it can not do please

Hi,

I'm trying to decide with live stream service to use so have lots of questions about Justin.tv please...

1) I do not want my viewers to see who is attending my broadcast or how many are watching. Can I as moderator set up my event so I'm the only person that can see the names and the number of those attending?

2) I also do not want my viewers to be able to see the questions and comments that others are typing in. Can I as moderator set up my event so I'm the only person that can see the text questions and/or comments my viewers are typing in?

3) Can I stream video from my computers desktop? If so, how good is the quality of the video and the clarity of the audio to my viewers?

4) Can I embed some code on my own website so my viewers can watch my live streaming event from my own website instead of your website?

5) Will my broadcasts be free of ads? If not, can I have a link for your different plans please?

6) Can I password protect a broadcast? If so, is there a fee for that? Can I embed the code for a password protected broadcast on to a page at my own website?

7) Some of my classes/broadcasts will be for members only and will only have about 10 to 30 people in them. If someone shares the link and password to one of those password protected classes/broadcasts, can I as moderator kick those that aren't supposed to be there out while the broadcast is taking place?

8) Does Justin.tv work with all browsers for Windows and Mac? Are there any browsers that don't work?

9) Are there any disadvantages of using Justin.tv to stream from my computers desktop over using a webinar service like GoToWebinar?

10) Will my viewers be able to see my broadcast on an iPhone or iPad or is Justin.tv Flash based only? If Justin.tv is Flash only, I assume my viewers can see my broadcast on Android devices, right?

11) Is there an app that would enable iOS users to view my broadcast on their iPhones and iPads? Is there an Android app too?

12) Can you please tell me the advantages and disadvantages for using Justin over other live stream services like Ustream, Livestream, or Vokle?

13) Will viewers from anywhere in the world be able to see my live broadcast?

Thank you very much.

The page displays the number of viewers you have below the video, and also the chat with the userlist the names of users that signed in to chat (viewers can watch without sign in); that is not something that the broadcaster can remove.

No, the chat is public visible for every person (logged in or not) who is at your channel watching it.
Personally i don't think any social streaming service has the features you are asking in these 2 points, no that i know of.

Yes, you can capture and stream your desktop, the quality of the video and audio only depends on your settings, the bigger upload speed you have the bigger resolution you can choose for the video and also the better audio quality. You could cast at hd 1080 pixels if you have the bandwith (and your viewers too )

The share tab below the video player has a share option, one is embed, you can do what you want with that (you can select if you add the chat too or not), note if you embed the channel at your site the video is still gonna be casted at your jtv channel too.

If your viewers have a pro account http://www.justin.tv/payments/pro/ then they will not see any ad, if they don't and you still want to ensure a ads free cast for all of your viewers you can have a plan for that http://www.justin.tv/payments/premium/

Yes, you can set a password for your channel, there is not chatge for that. (not 100% sure about the embed and the pass)

You can ban people only from the chat so they can't type, but still they can watch the video (if they have your password and the channel link,of course).

Probably, the only limitation is for people otside of usa (without a pro account) at certains times when the load is high and for channels with a high number of viewers (like more than 1000), for a regular channel or yours with some class for sure no limitation.

12) Never heard of Vokle. Ustream has limits on the resolution you can cast at, and bit rate is capped (I hear it's at 500kbs). Livestream is very similar. JTV has the no restrictions on quality you can cast at, and has the biggest video player. It also used to have no start up ads, but it looks like they're changing that soon. On the other side, I'd say there's a better social community on ustream/livestream. It seems like this site is more popular with movies/gaming.

Thank you!

I have a few more questions please...

1) So there is absolutely no way I can make my viewers comments/questions and the number of viewers watching (including names) invisible to everyone except me?

2) Does your free basic membership allow me to have unlimited channels and stream unlimited shows to unlimited viewers?

3) Do I need any software besides what Justin.tv offers to stream my computers desktop?

Thanks again.

1) So there is absolutely no way I can make my viewers comments/questions and the number of viewers watching (including names) invisible to everyone except me?

no, sorry, that is not configurable.the site is meant so you can share video (and chat) with multiple viewers at the same time.Only way to make it really private and 1 on 1 that i can imagine right now is cast just to one person using one password, then stop, change the password and cast to the other person, but you have to stream each time not only one.

2) Does your free basic membership allow me to have unlimited channels and stream unlimited shows to unlimited viewers?

yes

3) Do I need any software besides what Justin.tv offers to stream my computers desktop?

for a webcam lets say, all you need is the flash broadcaster (the red go live! button at the top of the page)
now for things like sharing the desktop or show images or videos or a picture in picture, you can do it with the same jtv broadcaster and using a simple and freeware software like manycam (or the shareware webcammax, any other virtual cam software) as a virtual camera as the input/cam for the jtv broadcaster
you also have other external software (xsplit, flash media encoder from adobe, wirecast, quicktime broadcaster, dyyno, etc) that can replace the jtv button with more functions, some like xsplit and wirecast they can have the desktop capture functions and other extra features

Thanks again.

Since I'm using a Mac, would you recommend I use Camtwist for the desktop streaming instead of the other programs you recommended?

yes, if you are on a mac, totally
xsplit is windows only

camtwist and wirecast are the best 2 you can use, but wirecast is expensive while camtwist is free and very good
