Default Update: Justin.tv moving to Django

Hi Everyone,

First of all: Thanks! You have all been very patient with us, and we truly appreciate it.

We recently rolled out one of our largest updates to Justin.tv. We worked on some much needed enhancements to our codebase, and moved from Rails to Django. This will provide Justin.tv with a stable foundation for the future. You can read more about our latest update here.

We spent of time testing this update before releasing it, but unfortunately multiple bugs developed after we rolled out this update.

We then lost a lot of sleep. A LOT! We worked around the clock to ticket and patch all of the bugs we possibly could.

Due to some rather large bugs, we decided to temporarily revert back to the older (Rails) version of Justin.tv. What does this mean for you? You will see the website as it was before we launched this update.

We will continue working our hardest to provide you with the best experience possible. Our team will spend about a week patching the major bugs and then give it another try.

Thank you for all of your patience.

Actually we're pretty mad. Not just about the bugs, but how you managed to roll the updates and handled the fixes and communication with your users. In tech world it's equivalent of "epic failure" or "disaster". Yet, we're still here, waiting.

I appreciate your honesty, but that's fresh startup's excuse, company like JTV should do better. Can't you hire (more) beta testers? I for one would love to be one (I contacted you in this matter before, got no reply at all). If you need a help from frequent broadcaster with strong tech skills (Linux sysadmin), let me know.

Side effect: we can make the highlights again.

Sounds like a threat, but it can't go much worse than before, can it? ;–)

"We spent of time testing this update before releasing it, but unfortunately multiple bugs developed after we rolled out this update." I don't know about anyone else but I just cannot make any sense out of this. Nor can I make sense out of "This will provide Justin.tv with a stable foundation for the future" When, 2020? "Due to some rather large bugs..." Having been on the internet since its inception, one would think that there exists a model for implementing updates, as well changes, that would not so disastrously descend on those who use the site.

I am patient, but I don't understand why you've allowed the chat rooms to be broken for such a long time. Live video and chat are bread-and-butter features of the site. Everything else—badges, highlights, etc.—is just a cherry on top. If JTV employees are going to lose sleep over anything, it should be from working to get the chat rooms fixed once and for all.

You gentlemen have been pioneers when it comes to streaming sites. Props to you. You could have avoided any issues with the segway into the new site by separating the prototype from the site that brings revenue to broadcasters and yourselves alike. I feel like this site is the beginning of a virtual Jurrassic Park. Sounds good, turns out bad, no survivors. Make a justin.tv/beta and advertise about it on your site so people can see what the big fuss is about.

Justin.tv and Admins are doing their best to bring things back, please be patients and also make sure to report the bugs and errors, I would also like to point out on Forgotten Passwords, Folks Please Write down your pass words and or have your Browser's remember the pass words for you so when you hit the site it should log in for you. I have been with Justin.tv for 4 years and it takes a lot of nights and day's to keep it up and running. Again Justin.tv Staff and Admins are doing there best keeping the site up for Everyone. Just have patience and Enjoy.

Default Bring things back!

Is that what all this mess is about, to bring things back? To comment of the forgotten passwords would be to give credibility to a red herring, which I will pass on. However, "I have been with Justin.tv for 4 years and it takes a lot of nights and day's to keep it up and running." and, I will suppose, you are paid a salary. Moreover, Jtv makes money for its efforts. Broadcasters, on the other hand, who provide ALL the content make ZERO. Now, to add insult, Jtv is providing a backyard clubhouse for a platform. What's next, a string and two tin cans? Quit the whining and do the J-O-B, which is all anyone expects.
