in order to get sound using virtual cam software you need to get an 1/8" jack to 1/8" jack and insert it into your Built-In Output and Built-In Input on your sound card.

There are a couple of alternative/advanced ideas too for those that are feeling adventurous. All of the below applies to PC's.

Software called Virtual Audio Cable can be used to "route" where audio signals go, emulating what the above accomplishes. It can also perform some of the functions a physical mixer can. While I do not use this software myself, several of my fellow broadcasters do with great results.

Also, some soundcards have a "stereo mix" function that can be selected as an output. If your soundcard has this, and you select it as a sound source, any audio from your computer will be played/streamed (ex. game audio, mp3s, etc.).

The older soundblaster cards supported this. So if you were to configure Flash Media Encoder and choose "Stereo Mix" from the audio options, it would simply stream everything that would normally come out of your speaker.

Don't have a sound card that can do that? But you know how to use or are interesting in try a VMWare Virtual Machine? Read on....

I have noticed that my virtualized Windows XP machine in VMWare (an entire operating system running in a window on my existing PC) comes with drivers for a Sound blaster card... so it was really easy to stream PC audio from that virtual machine. So if you wanted to stream music or perhaps some non intensive applications a VMWare solution might be a good fit. I am happy with it for one of the "music channels" I help manage.
