Question Question About Broadcasting

I've tried broadcasting on JTV and the options are Webcam, Game Console, Desktop and Mobile Phone. I'm trying to stream on desktop. I don't have a capture card, so does that mean I can't stream? All I want to stream is my microphone and my friends talking to me in Skype, I have no purpose for the video part. So can I broadcast only audio (or audio and video both) without a capture card or a webcam?

To stream off your desktop/monitor like streaming a pc game or video off your pc's hard drive your best way to go is a 'capture software' like VHscrCap.

If you are wanting to stream games from a console like a 360 or PS3 or video off a DVR, DVD player, etc then use a capture hardware device, which one to get is dependant on factors like how much you want to spend, what your internet upload speed is and your pc cpu speed and memory amount.

Capture software is free, a cheap but decent capture device is about $50-75 and you can spend up to $200-400 for a high dollar capture device if you want to get serious and you have the fast internet and pc to make use of it.

If your internet upload speed is fairly slow then it generally won't make sense to spend big $$$ for an expensive capture device unless you intend to upgrade your internet and also if the pc is weak it may also need upgraded to stream high resolutions.

To find out your internet upload speed, test it here - www.speedtest.net

I have FRAPS and that is screen capture software, but I don't think I can go live with that (I want to capture us real time).

Hmmmm, the 'Fraps' that i'm familiar with is a framerate capture/monitoring software and it's mainly for monitoring the FPS that a pc game is running at so that you will know how low the game is dragging down the pc and video card.

Screen capture software like VHscrCap or Multicam are different, they capture the video off the pc monitor so it can be streamed online.

You still need to use a broadcaster like FME or the Justin.tv broadcaster to stream that captured video to your channel.

FRAPS does desktop recording too. VHscrCap and Multicam don't have support for 64 bit, so I'll search around. Got any other suggestions for screen capture software?

VHscrCap does have 64bit support.

I don't use it as I capture with hardware but I have tried it and it worked fine on my Win7 64bit OS.
