Hey,
I am currently using windows 7(64-bit) and Google Chrome 9.0.597.84. Since coming back to university, I have been unable to view any justin.tv streams. Before coming back, using the same computer and set-up, everything ran fine. I've tried using IE and Chrome, and reinstalling flash several times. Everyone else on campus has this issue, as far as I'm aware. At university, in order to access the internet I had to click on 'LAN settings' under internet properties, and add a configuration script from the university. I assume this is effectively making it so that I have to pass through the University's proxy, and using their cache to access everything. I can currently view all other streaming website's streams. I only have problems with some programs that require me to connect to a server to download a patch etc. (i.e. use a download manager). Is there something within Justin.tv protocol that blocks proxies, or are there some ports that I should request be opened at the University's internet service desk? I'd really appreciate any help on this matter, I'm sick of not being able to watch Justin.tv streams. Edit: Just realised I should give information on why I can't view the streams. Currently, the loading circle appears after an advert, and spins for a while.. Before giving up and showing the stream image in the video box, and a 'refresh' button at the play/pause button's location. Last edited by Arcanewinds; 02-08-2011 at 10:07 PM. |

I encountered the same issue when visiting a friend at their college. From what I was told, the issue is the school's network - they may limit traffic, not allow certain content to pass through their network, etc. My friend's school will not allow you to operate any p2p clients, messaging clients, etc while connected on their wireless network for security reasons. They were not willing to allow us to bypass the network controls. I was able to access other streaming sites without a problem, but the network would not let JTV to work.

I guess the best thing for me to do is to call them, bah, I can't wait to go home for summer Edit: Here's a screenshot: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k6...ds/sdfsdfs.png It shows as live, but fails to play, and fails to load chat. Flash player is working fine, however. Last edited by Arcanewinds; 02-09-2011 at 02:34 PM. |

Some proxies are blocked, as they are often used to commit Terms of Service violations.

Wondering if you have tried other feeds. A common bug has been presented multiple times before of feeds appearing to be online when they are actually offline. Try one of the feed on the front page, if not I think your University might have one of the connections to JTV blocked. You could try a free website maker and load the Embed HTML. Not sure if that will actually help but it might.

If I were to go to the IT people, what would I have to ask them to do? I can't exactly just say 'unblock jtv pl0x.' Are there ports that would need to be opened? Or a server address that needs to go in the DMZ? (@Admins) This is a real pain at the moment, >70% of the Starcraft 2 community is streaming on justin Good for you guys of course, bad for lil' ol' me |

Just looking at the screenshot alone, it looks as though you're getting the video itself just fine but you can't connect to the chat room. Is that what you're seeing?
Also, it should be noted that colleges & universities aren't the only ones with public wireless networks restricting the types of traffic & websites visited. Hospitals are also doing this as well. An example of this came for me last year. I was in the hospital for a short overnight stay & used the WiFi there. I quickly discovered that while you can connect to some websites, others wouldn't work. Problem with this type of arrangement is that it varies from network to network as to which websites can & cannot be accessed. I don't remember if JTV was on the hospital's blacklist or not or even if I tried logging on. As such, I have no screenshot to provide as proof of my point. But it is nonetheless possible. FWIW..... Cheers |
