Global Ban
From Jtvcommunity
A Global Ban occurs when a user is banned from all Justin.tv chatrooms for 24 hours. Global bans can be initiated automatically by the Justin.tv IRC Server, an Administrator, or a Staff member.
24 Hour Global Bans are an IP based ban, meaning all accounts on the network will be banned. This ensures the user will not return under a new username.

Common Reasons for being Global Banned
As outlined above, there are two ways to be global banned: Automatically by the IRC Server, or Manually by an Administrator or Staff member.
Automatic Global Bans
- Spamming - An excessive amount of text sent to the server in a short amount of time by your username. This sometimes can be triggered unintentionally. We encourage users when chatting to not overload the server. This includes Bot games (such as trivia or blackjack).
- Mass Banned - When you are banned from an excessive amount of rooms in a short period of time, the server will recognize this and globally ban you. Please note: there are many safety checks to ensure this is not done maliciously by a certain moderator.
Manual Global Bans
- Inappropriate Comments - Some users wish to use the Justin.tv IRC Chat Service to express inappropriate, and sometimes vulgar comments. This is not acceptable on our IRC Chat Server. We encourage users to always be appropriate and treat other users and broadcasters with respect.
- Inappropriate Links - Occasionally users will massively spread a link throughout channels, with the only intent to advertise content. This falls under spam, which is not acceptable on the Justin.tv IRC Chat Service. If we notice this, and the IRC server has not yet automatically recognized it, we will initiate a Global Ban on your account.
- Disrespect - We encourage our users to always be respectful. This applies to not only being respectful to Administrators and Staff, but other users within the chatroom as well.
- Misuse of our Report System - There are many ways to address infringing content to Administrators and Staff members. Misuse of these systems will result in a Global Ban. We encourage all reporters to be honest in their reports. Failure to change habits will result in a loss of credibility and termination from our service.
- Impersonation - We want our broadcasters to feel safe within the community. Any member that attempts to impersonate another user will result in an immediate global ban. Following review, the account will be terminated from using the Justin.tv Service.
Lifting Global Bans
Although the most common reasons have been listed above, there are multiple other reasons to being global banned. We encourage all users to read our Community Guidelines.
Global Bans last 24 hours. Following 24 hours, the global ban will be lifted and the user will be free to continue contributing to the chatroom.
If you sincerely feel you were global banned by mistake, please Contact Us. Remember two things:
- We keep logs on everything that is said through our IRC Chat Server. Upon receiving your email, we will review our logs.
- Check with everyone that is using your IP Address. Any user on your IP address can affect your experience.
