What you need to use Wirecast

Turn your computer into a TV studio for live webcasting with Wirecast 4. You can purchase Wirecast here. Wirecast is available for Mac and PC, both of which will be covered in this tutorial

You will also need your Justin.tv username and password.

For PC

Image:Wirecast_main_window.pngThis is the default view of the main window for Wirecast. It shows the live view on the right, the preview window on the left, and at the bottom the five layers for a range of media assets.

Broadcast Settings

Wirecast makes setting up your Justin.tv channel very simple. All you need is your username and password and the program will automatically generate your stream key.

To add your stream settings to the broadcast list, go to Broadcast > Broadcast Settings. Under Destination: choose justin.tv, then under Username: enter your Justin.tv username. Then click the button Generate RTMP and your stream key will be automatically created.

Under Encoder Preset: there are many presets using a variety of codecs and bitrates. Choose or tweak one of these presets to suit what your internet bandwidth and computer system.

For Mac

  1. Load Wirecast, if it's your first time just Click the broadcast button in the upper right hand, or you can go into the Broadcast settings. Click "Encoder Preset" and select Flash Low/Medium/High/HD Bandwidth (dependent on your internet speed)
  2. Destination: Click the Justin.tv destination and enter your Justin.tv Username and click "Generate RTMP"
  3. At the prompt, enter your Justin.tv password and click okay

Additional: If you wish to check your broadcast settings for H.264 or other fields, you can instead select the encoder preset as "Edit"

Wirecast contains a complete tutorial to help get you started and to purchase a license, open Wirecast, select Preferences > Register > Purchase Now and follow the online instructions. You can also purchase Wirecast from their Secure Online Store.
